Mullabrack
4:15 v O’Hanlons 2:9
On a warm
Friday evening everyone was waiting for this local derby to take off
and after 10 minutes O’Hanlons got their just reward with a goal
struck past Gibney in the Mullabrack net. O’Hanlon’s continued to
boss the game for most of the opening quarter scoring a number of
good points from open play. From the 20 minute mark following a
couple of opening scores from Mullabrack, O’Hanlons continued to put
points on the board. Three points then taken by Mullabrack from the
boot of Gerard Agnew and a final free from Pip Agnew left the score
in O’Hanlon’s favour at half time 1:6 to 5 points.
At the
beginning of the second half it was a different Mullabrack side that
came out to play down the field. Within 3 minutes Gerard Agnew had
the ball in the O’Hanlons net followed by a long range point to the
level the game.
Phelim Sands
and Sean Agnew began to get to grips with the O’Hanlons midfield. A
good kick out from Tommy O’Hagan found Dara Smith on the ‘50’ who
sent a hand pass to Gerard Agnew on the left hand side touchline and
in the usual style Agnew slotted the ball between the posts.
O’Hanlons then levelled the score from a free 20 yards out from
goal.
The lively
Eamon Boylan also had a number of chances and from a resulting ‘50’
Gerard Agnew struck it short to the on running Sean Agnew who sent a
long range punt between the uprights. The young Taff Toal got in the
action soon afterwards winning a high ball out on the right hand
side. He turned his man and proceeded to pass two further defenders
with ease and struck the ball low and hard past the O’Hanlons keeper
and into the net. A well deserved individual effort from Mullabracks
talented young forward.
Charlie
Agnew then changed his side bringing on Marty Rice for Paddy Toal
and Colin Murphy in place of the injured Tommy O’Hagan. No sooner
was Colin Murphy into the action when he took an opportune shot at
goal which bounced in front of the keeper and over the O’Hanlons bar
to leave the score at 2:8 to 1:6. Mullabrack looked to be home and
dry at this point and with the teams exchanging scores the lively
Eamon Boylan won a high ball on the edge of the O’Hanlons area,
however his path was illegally inhibited on his way to goal and
Marty Rice slotted the resulting penalty into the O’Hanlons net.
Pip Agnew
then swapped two good points with the O’Hanlons full forward. The
game was still being played at a high tempo and Mullabrack was not
getting it all their own way. Colin Gibney who entered the fray
replacing Christopher Dougan and a high ball to deal with, however a
lack of communication with Hugh McSorely let the O’Hanlon’s full
forward in for an easy goal. Mullabrack instead of holding play
until the whistle got a last wind and the talented Eamon Boylan
slotted a shot on the turn between the posts, just before he was
replaced by Sean Paul Henry. In the dying minutes Gerard Agnew took
two final points with O’Hanlons replying with two of their own.
Charlie Agnew then played his final card replacing Taff Toal with
James Lavery and what a super substitution it turned out to be. Sean
Agnew sent a high ball into the O’Hanlons area and some how Lavery
got the ball on his chest, sold a clever dummy and side footed the
ball into the O’Hanlons net to leave the final score Mullabrack 4:15
to O’Hanlons 2:9.
