League Match

Friday 17th August

Mullabrack  1;11 v Forkhill 0:7

Mullabrack back on track!

With two wins on the trot after their championship defeat Mullabrack visited Forkhill last Friday night with the hope of making it three in a row.

The game proved a very tight affair with Mullabrack seeing much of the ball in the first ten minutes; however the good possession could not be converted to points. At the back Hugh McSorely and Tommy O’Hagan commanded their areas with conviction and up front Mullabrack managed to take scores from the boots of Pip Agnew, Benny Dougan and Taff Toal. Forkhill registered their first points at the half way mark in the first period; however it was Mullabrack who finished the stronger at the end of the first half with a score of 7 points to 4 points in the “bracks” favour. Unfortunately Mullabrack lost Sean Agnew just before half time with a serious head wound.

Mullabrack started the second half as they finished the first with good work in the midfield from Phelim Sands. Benny Dougan, Dara Smith and Taff Toal in the forward line were giving the Forkhill backs plenty to think about. The game was certainly being played with a great deal of spirit by both sides. In the half back line the experienced Gerard Agnew and Colin Murphy kept the Forkhill forwards at bay and for long periods of the second half it looked like anyone’s game. It was not until midway through the second half did Mullabrack finally get to grips with a very competitive Forkhill side. A good ball won by Dara Smith on the “40” who shifted the ball on to an advancing Taff Toal saw the young forward strike the ball to the back of the net. At this point Mullabrack made a couple of changes bringing on Martin Rice and Sean Paul Henry. Forkhill took a couple of scores of their own before the end of the game, however it was Mullabrack who finished the stronger with good points taken by Dara Smith and Kevin Smith to leave the final score 1:11 to 7 points in Mullabracks favour. All at the club wish Sean Agnew a speedy recovery.
