PRESS RELEASE

League Match

Mullabrack v Dorsey Emmet’s
Sunday 21st October 2007

The final game of the season for both teams provided a fine spectacle of good football. Both teams had good chances in the opening minutes, however it was not until the 8th minute that Mullabrack opened the scoring through Stephen Carberry. Martin Rice in the full forward line then won a free on the 20 yard line which Philip Agnew converted. Dorsey then sparked into life with two points on the bounce.

Dara Smith in the Mullabrack midfield was catching everything from the kick out. On 15 minutes he caught a long kick out from Danny O’Hanlon and sent the ball into Martin Rice who managed to evade the defender. He lobbed the ball over the last defender to Eamon Boylan who shot past the advancing keeper for the first goal of the game.

Dorsey were not phased by this goal and took three quick scores of their own with Gerard Agnew and Phelim Sands replying for Mullabrack leaving the half time score at 1:4 to 5 points in Mullabracks favour.

Mullabrack started the second half as the ended the first with a great score from Dara Smith from 40 yards out from goal. Dorsey replied within 3 minutes, however once again Mullabrack replied through Eamon Boylan on the edge of the square.

The game was proving to be a tight affair with Martin Rice and Dara Smith winning good ball against their opponents. Stephen Sands and Colin Murphy used all their experience to ensure the Dorsey forwards did not get it all their own way. Stephen Carberry, John Conlon and Hugh McSorely spoiled much of the Dorsey play at half back and from this many of the Mullabrack scores were launched.

At 1:6 to 6 points after 10 minutes Mullabrack continued to take scores with Gerard Agnew scoring three and Phelim Sands with his second of the game, before Dorsey replied with a point of their own leaving the score at 1:9 to 7 points. Then came the turning point of the game. Colin Donnelly caught a good ball far out on the right hand side line. He sent the ball towards the Dorsey square and unfortunately a misunderstanding between the Dorsey keeper and defender left the ball in the back of the Dorsey net.

With time running out there was no way back for a spirited Dorsey side. With final exchanges of points the referee blew the game up with a final score of Mullabrack 2:10, Dorsey 9 points.

This was a good result and performance for a Mullabrack side who had tried and trained hard all year. The club can now look forward to a break ready for the start of the new season in 2008. In the meantime the club is running a night at the races on Saturday 27th October in Devlins bar, Armagh from 8.30pm. All are welcome to attend. Finally the annual dinner will be taking place on Friday 16th November at the Hilgrove Hotel. Tickets are available from committee members.
