Mullabrack GFC v AghadergGFC [ 17;30pm throw in. Venue: Mullabrack]
Charlie Agnew and his management team had their
third test of the season against 3rd Division Co Down outfit
Aghaderg GFC from Ballavarley outside Banbridge. With over 22
players to choose from Mullabrack started with a strong selection.
Aghaderg started
brightly and with their first score managed to put the ball in teh
back of the net. It was a wake up call immediately for Mullabrack
and with just 10 minutes played a good move from the middle of the
pitch saw the ball caught by Eamon Boylan who sent a pass to Oisin
French, who then fired a shot into the back of the net. An
unsettled Aghaderg side managed their first point which was quickly
followed up with a well taken point from Philip Murphy for
Mullabrack. Chances and points were then missed on both side before
Aghaderg got a second goal. With a short time to go to half time
Philem Sands sent a high ball into the Aghaderg square which the
keeper should have claimed, however the ball was dropped and Eamon
Boylan was on hand to send the ball to the net. Aghaderg got a
final point just before half time leaving the score 2:1 v 2:2
to Aghaderg.
The
second half started
brightly for Mullabrack who equalised though a point from Paddy Toal.
About 8 minutes into the half Mullabrack then got a stroke of luck
when Hugh McSorely sent in a fifty which floated into the Aghaderg
square and then straight into the net. Aghaderg then responded with
a third and final point leaving the score 2:3 to 3:2 to
Mullabrack with everything to play for.
Mullabrack then
began to take control at midfield and a move involving Pip Agnew
from defence who sent a high ball to Philip Murphy, and with a
great cross field ball found Paddy Toal in behind the defence who
sent an unstoppable ball into the net. A cracker of a goal!.
Mullabrack had a lot of possession in the second half and
substitutions were made by Charlie Agnew half way through the second
half. Aidan McKeown came off the subs bench and scored a good point.
Pip Agnew then completed the game with two excellent long distance
points from the left hand side. All in all a good win for
Mullabrack.
